A new report commissioned by Read On. Get On is published today. The Power of Reading, “finds that stronger reading skills at age 10 are associated with higher wages in adulthood… They also offer some suggestion that the benefits are larger for children growing up in poverty.” The report recommends that by 2020 all nurseries employ at least one early years graduate and at least one member of staff with appropriate qualifications in speech, language and communication.
The report sets out key recommendations for the next government in two crucial domains where national government has influence in England: nurseries and primary schools.
